Two friends sentenced to life for raping sleeping KZN teen
Two mates bag life sentences in KwaZulu-Natal.
Two males from KwaZulu-Natal responsible of breaking into a house and raping a sleeping teenager, have been sentenced to life imprisonment.
The police disclosed this sentencing on Thursday.
Ulundi Regional Court docket sentenced the 2 mates, Sifundo Khumalo, 29, and Khethokuhle Dubazane, 26 to life imprisonment for rape on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala mentioned the incident occurred on 5 November, 2018.
He narrated that the 18-year-old girl was asleep in her residence in Njomelwane in Mahlabathini when the duo- Dubazane and Khumalo- “gained entry by means of the window and accosted her”.
“They raped her till the next morning. She reported the matter to the police and fees of rape had been opened on the Mahlabathini police station.”
“The docket was transferred to the Ulundi Household Violence, Baby Safety and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for additional investigation.”
“The accused had been later arrested and made a number of courtroom appearances till they had been efficiently convicted and sentenced.”
Provincial commissioner Lieutenant-Normal Khombinkosi Jula was happy with the courtroom sentencing.
“We recognize the heavy sentence handed to the accused and we hope it should function a lesson to others. We pray that this heavy sentence will the assistance the victims to seek out closure and therapeutic,” mentioned Jula.
