– Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of becoming the first billionaire football star
– The 35-year-old is the second most-paid player after Lionel Messi so far in 2020
– CR7 confirmed he would take a pay cut from Juventus to help Juve manoeuvre during this Covid-19 pandemic
Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is unarguably one of the most-paid footballers in the world, according to report by Give Me Sport in February 2020.
The Portugal international earns a staggering €4.5 million (R88.6 million) gross per month – only Lionel Messi makes more money than the 35-year-old.
Simpletune.org learnt that he is on the verge of becoming the first football star to become a billionaire due to his earnings both on and off the pitch.
However, the deadly coronavirus pandemic currently ravaging the world has forced the 35-year-old, along with his teammates, to take a pay cut.
The Old Lady announced that they have reached an agreement with their players over a reduction in their pay until Covid-19 is taken care of.
Juve’s statement read:
“It has reached an understanding with the players and the coach of the First Team regarding their compensation for the residual portion of the current sport season.
“The understanding provides for the reduction of the compensation for an amount equal to the monthly payments of March, April, May and June 2020.
“In the coming weeks, personal agreements with the players and the coach will be finalised, as required by the current regulations.”
This development is not expected to slow the former Real Madrid star down owing to the growth in his personal wealth.
Ronaldo’s on and off-field earnings will soon see him join sport’s exclusive billionaire club – currently featuring only boxer Floyd Mayweather and Tiger Woods.
Business Insider reports that the Portuguese star made £39 million (R76 million) via Instagram posts during his first season at Juventus while his take-home pay was £30m (R59 million) from the club. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner cashes in on his vast social media followings through sponsored posts, while his other businesses would help push his target.
